Round 3: Mugello (Italy)

Sunday 7th January saw the return of the Formula Hybrid championship. The new year’s racing calendar began with drivers competing at Mugello, a lesser known Italian circuit that has not featured on the F1 calendar in recent years, although it was considered a replacement venue after the flooding at Imola last year.

This was the first championship race to feature a VRROOM staff member. We let our centre manager Josh AKA ‘The Stig’ join in the fun alongside some familiar faces.

Josh qualified on pole, closely followed by Jamie Snelling. The race start saw an incident at turn one which sent the majority of the field into the gravel with only Josh and Jamie escaping the mayhem. A race is rarely won or lost in turn one,  but it makes it extra difficult in a competitive field to recover. Harrison Simpson did just that. While Josh and Jamie rubbed shoulders up front,  Harrison and Aaron Harris set about slowly reeling them in.  The race ended with a win for Jamie, a second place podium finish for Harrison and The Stig displaced to third overall. Aaron claimed forth spot and Conor Stevens took fifth.

The next round is on Sunday 21st, 2pm and takes place at Monza, a circuit that needs little introduction. We welcome all comers. If you feel like trying your hand at racing against others, then why not join us on track.
